More Festival Follies at the Lake Okeechobee Pagan Summer Solstice Festival in Pahokee

After a soggy Thursday, the Lake Okeechobee Pagan Summer Solstice Festival rebounded on Friday for one of the most impressive festival evenings we have attended in Florida. The festival promoters are definitely “Bringing It,” offering foresight of how Florida pagan festivals will be evolving in the future. Before chatting about the frivolities and fun of Thursday and Friday, I wanted to share a couple of really memorable and ironic moments. First Ironic Festival Moment ~ Two local people talking in a restaurant. One asks the other, “Have you gotten any more business with the festival here?” The restaurant owner says, … Continue reading

Florida’s Newest Festival ~ The Lake Okeechobee Summer Solstice Pagan Festival (06/19-06/23/13)

There’s been quite a buzz throughout the Pagan and Wiccan Community here in Florida about a new festival called The Lake Okeechobee Summer Festival, which is being held over the Midsummer Solstice. This, of course, peeked out curiosity immensely, so we chased down Tom Evans and Bruce Mullins to answer some of the many questions going around about this new festival.  Hopefully, the following will answer many of the questions circulating about the Community. Phoenix Phyre Ostara 2012 ~ Friday 03/23/12

On Friday morning, I got a chance to get my bones moving in some fashion again after consuming several cups of coffee.  One of the many nice perks at Phoenix Phyre is that a drip coffee pot is available at the First Aid tent so you can run by and grab a quick cup while you are waiting for your own pot to brew.  I asked Drew, the Events Coordinator of the festival, about the coffee and he indicated that the Phoenix Phamily had determined that coffee was a medical necessity and I completely agree.  A good cup of coffee … Continue reading

Upcoming Festivals – Florida Pagan & Wiccan Scene (Spring 2012) Phoenix Phyre & FPG

Phoenix Phyre (03/21 – 03/25/12 Lakeland, Florida) Over the years, Phoenix Phyre has changed locations throughout the State of Florida in past years, but has seemed to settle into Lakelad, which is more convenient for South Florida Pagans & Wiccans. Last time I attended this festival, we found ourselves just over the state line into Georgia.  Phoenix Phyre has always tended to attract a strong elder (“wise ones” not old people) base from the Community and we have a wonderful time catching up with old friends we hadn’t seen in a long, long time as well as meeting many more new friends. The Fall main … Continue reading

Alexian ~ 28 Pagan Musicians in 28 Days Series 2012

Alexian 1

If you are looking for a heavy rock or celtic flavor, you won’t find it in Alexian’s music.  What you will find is that he has a very special niche in the pagan music arena – Showtune stylings.  He’s upbeat and his tunes are catchy and no one else does this in the pagan genre.  Every time I listen to him, I can imagine I’m sitting in a musical theatre listening to a musical.  (Actually, would love to see him perform in Wicked and I would do some travelling to see that!) Interestingly, I first met Alexian and his charming … Continue reading
