Embracing Magick Series – Part 6

Let’s Talk Ethics — In discussions regarding Magick, I often will ask, “So, what are you practicing?” I get some very interesting comments, but I would like to bring to attention one in particular that recurs, “Nothing. I don’t actually practice because I don’t want to hurt anyone.” No matter how many times I hear that, it still makes me raise an eyebrow. Lol! Firstly, there are so many forms of magick and practicing magick that does not directly involve other people. However, the fear of harming sometimes overshadows the possibility for practice which blinds us to endless avenues of … Continue reading

Embracing Magick Series – Part 5 Understanding Basic Magickal Structure — Various traditions within the Craft, Pagansim, and the occult have varied beliefs with regard to the functioning of Magick. It is the Elephant of India story again. (Several blind men are led to an elephant and asked to describe what an elephant looks like and they all come up with a different description depending on the part they are touching. Each description could be considered correct in the context of their experience, but because their experience lies only in one section and is limited, the larger truth of what … Continue reading

Embracing Magick Series – Part 4

Magick is in the Eye of the Beholder Young Johnny had been studying paganism and going to gatherings for several years and was fascinated about Magick. He heard many stories, but had yet to actually witness something he would qualify as “magickal”. Therefore, he decided to run an experiment so that he could prove to himself whether or not Magick actually existed. He thought long and hard about what type of experiment to run and decided that the perfect experiment would be having someone actually moving something by Magickal means. He realized that in order to perform his experiment, however, … Continue reading

You take the High Road and I’ll take the Low Road… These are more fun “old school” terms – High Magick and Low Magick. I personally don’t know why this High/Low stuff has EVER caught on because in my mind it makes it seems like it tries to make one look like it is better than the other and it’s not so. But here we go anyway. Before I start, though, I want to say that both High and Low Magicks have upsides and downsides to them. I am discussing generalities and not specifics here, so please don’t get your … Continue reading

Embracing Magick Series – Part 2

Why do you keep misspelling Magick? This is actually one of those “old school” terms that is not used so often anymore. Magic (without the k) was reserved for stage magic which is an art that was greatly hidden from public understanding. Tah Dah! Pulling a rabbit out of the hat! Magick (with a k) refers to old-fashioned, nothing up the sleeves, no logical way to explain it cause I just did it Magick! Stage magic has often been looked down upon by Wytches, but I have always admired those techniques as well. It seems like the perfect opportunity to … Continue reading

Embracing Magick Series – Part 1

Magick! I love Magick! It’s the most funnest thing you can do! About twenty some odd years ago, I was visiting a coven with my HP and I was approached on the side by a lovely lady. She had a question she wanted to ask me privately so that no one in her coven would hear. Before she got to the question, she explained that she had been in the Craft for over eight years and loved her religion. It was a very deep and meaningful religion for her, but there was one question she had that she could not … Continue reading
