Letter to the Florida Pagan Community by Peter Dybing

Peter Dybing 2013

Greetings brothers, sisters and kin, Our community has endured much over that last several months, from Pagans having their membership in Masonic lodges revoked, to attacks on the home of a Pagan author to recent threats of protests. Through this entire process the community has banded together, shown support and presented the face of our community as one of love, acceptance and support for our community members. In just a few days the Okeechobee Summer Solstice Festival will take place in Pahokee Florida. It is natural that the surrounding controversy has caused some concern as to what will take place … Continue reading

Thank the Goddess for Pagan Activists ~ Especially for Florida Lately

Peter Selena 2

Florida has been on quite a roll lately.  Aren’t we just the hubbub of activity these days? In April of this year, our good friend and one of the pioneering pagan children’s authors, Kyrja Withers, and her husband underwent severe threatening harassment, which began with people screaming expletives and honking as they drove by, progressing to a pellet gun being fired at her house, and then escalating to two acid bombs being tossed into her front yard. This, of course, would cause any family extreme fear and stress about any further harassment and the level to which it might continue … Continue reading

Florida’s Newest Festival ~ The Lake Okeechobee Summer Solstice Pagan Festival (06/19-06/23/13)

sumsol

There’s been quite a buzz throughout the Pagan and Wiccan Community here in Florida about a new festival called The Lake Okeechobee Summer Festival, which is being held over the Midsummer Solstice. This, of course, peeked out curiosity immensely, so we chased down Tom Evans and Bruce Mullins to answer some of the many questions going around about this new festival.  Hopefully, the following will answer many of the questions circulating about the Community. Unfortunately, there has been a negative reaction by a small percentage of the locals.  We ask, therefore, that we support this new festival and exercise patience … Continue reading

The Impending Bed Bug Infestation a/k/a Bringing Home Hitchhikers from Pagan Festivals

White Beetle

Usually I’m the lucky kind of gal and I seldom even get “skeeter” bites when I’m out and about at festivals. However, this time was different. I ended up with a spider bite behind my knee and one of my face. After my husband and I returned home, we did the usual head to toe mutual bug check and found that I had managed to acquire a tick as well. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am definitely a nature religion kind of gal, but I don’t exactly go as far as embracing the biting bug part of nature. Hitchhikers … Continue reading

Phoenix Phyre Ostara 2012 ~ Sunday 03/25/12 & Post Game Thoughts

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

Closing ritual was held on Sunday morning at Phoenix Phyre, but I didn’t attend because, as I am sure everyone has figured out at this point, I don’t do morning anything well. So while I spent time with last minute chats with cherished friends, The Abyss packed away our stuff and trying to leave the site as it was before we came.  Then there were, of course, goodbyes, hugs, and exchanges of contact information before we hopped into the car for the long drive home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ POST GAME ~ What did we think about Phoenix Phyre Ostara 2012? In discussions … Continue reading

Phoenix Phyre Ostara 2012 ~ Saturday 03/24/12

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

Saturday was another stumble to the First Aid Tent for a cup of coffee and a period of malaise in a camp chair. (I’m so predictable in the mornings.) Then, we headed off to walk around for a little bit stopping by to see the Rupert’s Tales show that Kyrja & Randy presented at Phoenix Phyre. Our son thoroughly enjoyed the tales and songs. If you have never sat in on one of these children’s workshops, it is worthwhile and enjoyable even for adults. Afterwards, Kyrja and Randy stopped by to visit our hearth. Always love spending time with her … Continue reading

Phoenix Phyre Ostara 2012 ~ Friday 03/23/12

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

On Friday morning, I got a chance to get my bones moving in some fashion again after consuming several cups of coffee.  One of the many nice perks at Phoenix Phyre is that a drip coffee pot is available at the First Aid tent so you can run by and grab a quick cup while you are waiting for your own pot to brew.  I asked Drew, the Events Coordinator of the festival, about the coffee and he indicated that the Phoenix Phamily had determined that coffee was a medical necessity and I completely agree.  A good cup of coffee … Continue reading
