Inkubus Sukkubus is often described as British goth and is actually one of the first bands to have been labeled as a “pagan rock” band. Yet, over the years they have developed their own distinctive style which diverged from the earlier folk style pagan music of other artists while still maintaining pagan themes and a Celtic flavor. As such, they became and have continued to be extremely popular in the Pagan and Wiccan Community over the year.
The band formed in the summer of 1989 when Tony McKormack, Candia Ridley and Adam Henderson met at college studying graphic design. They shared an interest in paganism, witchcraft and vampirism and formed a band called Incubus Succubus with the aim having a vehicle in which the celebration of the Pagan experience could be conveyed. However, shortly after the release of their first single, some members of the band drifted away leaving just Candia & Tony, who continued as Children of the Moon, a studio-based project. In 1991, Bob, the original drummer, returned and Incubus Succubus was consequently reborn releasing the Children of the Moon material on one cassette album called Beltaine.
In 1995, the spelling of the band’s name was changed to Inkubus Sukkubus for numerological reasons along with substantial changes to the musical tone and style of the band including Bob playing bass guitar for the band and replacing Adam Henderson. Throughout the years, Inkubus Sukkubus has toured the world and continued releasing albums with accolades from the music industry as well as the Pagan and Wiccan Community. During 2011, the band released two new albums called The Goat and The Dead Unleashed.
Due to their mainstream popularity, they have the opportunity to grace us with high production qualities and recordings that are well appreciated within the Pagan and Wiccan Community. We look forward to their continued productivity and future albums to enjoy.
